Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Treatment available at Helen Ellis

Dr. Najam Javeed and Dr. Hadi Hakki recently successfully performed the first abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) stent graft repair in the Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital Cath Lab.  An abdominal aortic aneurysm develops when the aorta weakens and expands forming a bulge in the wall of the blood vessel. AAA may affect anyone, but most often develops in men with increasing age. Some aneurysms can go unidentified but run the risk of rupture if enlarged, and often without any warning signs.  If the aneurysm is considered in need of repair, a percutaneous technique is used where the stent graft is placed inside the diseased vessel without surgical opening of the tissue. A catheter is placed in both legs during the procedure. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and normally has a fast recovery time. For more information, call (727) 942-5081.
