Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital has an 80 year tradition of care as a community-based, not-for-profit health care provider. Helen Ellis Memorial is a member of a four hospital regional network called University Community Health. The network includes University Community Hospital, in Tampa; Pepin Heart and Research Institute in Tampa, University Community Hospital – Carrollwood; and Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs. University Community Health hospitals and satellite service programs employ over 5,000 people in the Tampa Bay area. Over 1,350 physicians have medical staff privileges at one or more of the network’s hospitals.

With the strength of the University Community Health connection, Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital is further enhancing its continuum of care.

An example of this is the expansion of Helen Ellis cardiovascular services. Helen Ellis is moving aggressively forward to become the heart care resource for our service area communities in North Pinellas and West Pasco. We recently added an electrophysiology lab for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrythmias and other electrical disorders of the heart. With the support of the UCH Pepin Heart Hospital, a premier cardiac care facility in Tampa, Helen Ellis now has an emergency angioplasty capability with exceptional outcomes, and we intend to establish open heart surgery here in the near future, and are now seeking final state approval.

We take our mission of service to our community very seriously. The dedication of our staff was recognized as a result of the triennial accreditation survey conducted in late 2007 by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital achieved full accreditation and was commended for its overall commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care practice. Additionally, the home health care division, Helen Ellis HomeCare, achieved excellent results in a separate Joint Commission survey.
