John & Mariette Thompson hosted the 2009 Burnette Society Reception at their lovely home in Tarpon Springs.
Burnette Society - This society is named in memory of Dr. Elmer W. Burnette, a physician of Tarpon Springs. He is identified as one of the most instrumental people in building the first hospital facility now known as Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital. This Society is composed of those who contribute $1,000 annually, specifically directed under Burnette Society to benefit Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital Foundation, Inc.

Gifts of Your IRA
- Under the Pension Protection Act of 2006 you can save more on taxes by using funds directly from your IRA without incurring tax liability. There is a greater tax savings to the donor by contributing directly to the charity. Furthermore, a direct contribution to the charity meets the minimum distribution requirement.
To be eligible for this special tax treatment, you must be 70 1/2 years old on the day you make your gift. The maximum amount you can transfer from your IRA is up to $100,000. Your spouse may also transfer up to $100,000 from his/her IRA.
You can make a gift simply by contacting your IRA custodian to make a direct transfer from your IRA to an eligible organization. Be sure to have the custodian send funds electronically or by check made payable to the charitable organization in order to receive the special tax benefits.
