4/30/2007

Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital Volunteers Gift $63,000 for ER Expansion TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (April 30, 2007)--- On Wednesday, May 2, 2007, the Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital’s volunteers will be presenting a $63,000 donation to the hospital's charitable foundation. The gift is the final payment on a multi-year $500,000 pledge for the Emergency Department expansion at the 168-bed hospital. Starting at 11:30 a.m., the annual meeting and award luncheon will take place at the Cypress Run Country Club in Tarpon Springs. In 2002, according to Clifford Pendleton, who was president of the Auxiliary volunteer organization at the time, the half million dollar charitable pledge was initiated by the Auxiliary to provide seed money for improvements in the Emergency Department facilities and equipment of Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital. The funds are held in restricted reserve by the Foundation for this purpose. The hospital used a portion of the funds for equipment upgrades in ER, but most of the pledge funds will go toward a new ER facility now in the early planning stage. Since 1962, the volunteers have donated more than $2.25 million for equipment and hospital capital improvements. In addition, volunteers annually give over 45,000 hours of service in a variety of support functions at the hospital. Established in 1927, Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital is a 168-bed acute care facility that serves northern Pinellas County and western Pasco County, offering an extensive range of inpatient, maternity and outpatient services covering the health care needs of all ages. The hospital is part of the University Community Health network of hospitals, which was created to reflect the combined strength and partnership achieved through the union of University Community Hospital (UCH) and UCH-Carrollwood in Tampa, and Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs. Pepin Heart Hospital & Dr. Kiran C. Patel Research Institute, the fourth hospital in the University Community Health network of hospitals, is positioned to transform the delivery of healthcare with its all-digital technology. Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital is located at 1395 S. Pinellas Avenue, Tarpon Springs, Fla., (727) 942-5000. ###
