Emergency Department & Express Care

The Emergency Department (ED) is a specialized area of the hospital designed to care for patients with acute illnesses or injuries. Specially trained physicians, nurse practitioners and registered nurses area available to provide care in all areas 24 hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. All patients entering the ED are “triaged,” a preliminary assessment of their medical needs. This helps assure that those patients with the most serious medical problems are given priority attention by the professional staff.

The Express Care service is designed to help expedite the care of patients with minor illness or injury who come into the Emergency Department during normally busy periods of the day. A dedicated Express Care treatment area is staffed and equipped during these hours for this purpose. Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital established Express Care as a patient-friendly and innovative way to meet the health care needs of our community.
